Leon HS Speech and Debate finishes Second in State!!!

The Leon HS Speech and Debate team had a very successful year last year(2017). Five students qualified for the National Speech Tournament and they placed third as a team in the UIL Speech and Debate State Tournament. However, there were some students that decided it wasn’t enough and they set their sights on improvement for the year 2018.

Senior, Colby Garcia won third place Prose Interpretation at UIL State as a sophomore but did not make State his junior year. His goal was to get back to UIL State.

2018 UIL State, Colby Garcia third place Prose Interpretation; goal accomplished.

Junior, Caden Cox qualified to UIL State Informative Speaking as a Freshman but not as a Sophomore. His goal was to get back to UIL State and place.

2018 UIL State, Caden Cox second place Congress and third place Informative Speaking; goal accomplished.

Senior, Nathan McCoslin had an outstanding Junior year, including a UIL State Championship in Lincoln Douglas Debate. His goal though was simple, improve the overall team standing at the UIL State Tournament.

2018 UIL State, Nathan McCoslin second place Persuasive Speaking and Leon High School second place team overall.

This team has worked hard all year and has made many sacrifices and improvements, and we want to congratulate all of its members.
