H1N1

  H1N1 vaccine

Leon ISD is very active in disseminating information that is important to our students and their families by making it available through postings on campus, mail out and hand carried letters to home, newspaper articles and website reference.  Currently the most important information to be shared pertains to health and wellness, more specifically, “H1N1 and seasonal influenza prevention”.  Leon ISD follows the recommendations of the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding this issue.  The following recommendations by these agencies are noted and observed by Leon ISD and we ask that you, as parents, follow the same recommendations and promote them to your children.

-       WASH YOUR HANDS AT REGULAR INTERVALS DURING THE WORK/SCHOOL DAY.

-       USE HAND SANITIZERS WHENEVER SOAP AND WATER IS NOT AVAILABLE TO WASH YOUR HANDS.

-       KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM YOUR FACE.

-       COVER YOUR COUGH OR SNEEZE WITH A TISSUE COVERED HAND OR THE BEND OF YOUR ELBOW.

-       DISPOSE OF TISSUES PROMPTLY.

-       STAY HOME FROM WORK OR SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE FEVER OR OTHER SYMPTOMS SUCH AS SEVERE COUGH, BODY ACHES, OR HEADACHE.

-       DO NOT RETURN TO WORK OR SCHOOL UNTIL YOU ARE CLEARED BY A DOCTOR OR YOU HAVE BEEN WITHOUT FEVER FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS WITHOUT THE USE OF A FEVER REDUCING MEDICATION.

-       GET A SEASONAL INFLUENZA VACCINE (FLU SHOT) NOW FROM A LOCAL PROVIDER OR THE LOCAL DSHS OFFICE.

-       GET A H1N1 INFLUENZA VACCINE AS SOON AS THEY ARE MADE AVAILABLE.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION is available by dialing 2-1-1 on your telephone or by visiting the influenza website @ www.TexasFlu.org

Leon ISD does not have the seasonal influenza vaccine available for the student population, but will have the H1N1 vaccine available whenever the supply is released to our area.  Information regarding the H1N1 vaccine will be mailed to the current address of all students, along with a consent for you to sign, if you wish for your child to receive the vaccine at school.  The H1N1 vaccine is recommended, but IS NOT REQUIRED by Leon ISD, or any entity that governs Leon ISD. Projected date of distribution for our area is sometime after the first of November.  We have not been given a specific date, at this time.  Our school nurse is working closely with the local and state authorities to insure that our students are provided for.  Her phone # is 903-626-1430, should you have any questions or concerns.
